On occasion of Chhath PM Modi says India among leading nations in solar energy generation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the 94th edition of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday, extended greetings on the occasion of Chhath Puja.

“Sun worship is the proof of the deep connect of our culture with nature,” PM Modi said.

Modi cited Chhath as an example of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, he said that the festival is today celebrated with great fervour by communities in different parts of the country.

He further said that India is linking its age old traditional experience with modern science, and today is amongst the leading nations generating electricity from solar energy.

“Can you imagine that you use electricity for an entire month and instead of paying the bill you get paid for the electricity,” said the prime minister.

Talking about the the first solar village of the country – Modhera in Gujarat, Modi said ” In Modhera village almost all houses use solar energy to fulfil their electricity needs. People there are not only making use of electricity through solar energy but also earning out of it. Modhera has become a model for the whole country now”.

PM also mentioned ISRO’s launch of 36 broadband satellites into space which took place on October 23. “I am reminded of the time when India was denied the cryogenic rocket technology. Today India’s scientists have not only developed indigenous technology and but are also sending dozens of satellites into space.”

Participation of youth and the private companies in  the space sector has brought about a revolutionary change, he said.

“Student power is the basis for making India powerful. The youth with their talent will take the country to new heights,” the PM said in his address.
