Parliament session Live Updates: PM Modi bids farewell to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, says his legacy will continue to guide nation

Parliament monsoon session Live Updates: Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi bid farewell to Vice-President and Chairman Venkaiah Naidu on Monday. PM Modi stated that it was an emotional moment for the House. “You (Naidu) have always said that you have retired from politics but not from public life… Your term in the office may be coming to an end but your experiences will continue to guide the nation for years to come,” he said. Praising the outgoing V-P, Modi added, “Your each word is heard, preferred and never countered.”

The Congress party, meanwhile, has hit out at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) over its summons to Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh issued a statement saying, “…in matters, issuing of summons by ED or any law-enforcing agencies to any MP much less the Leader of Opposition when Parliament is in session, is an outright affront to the sacred institution of Parliament and Parliamentarians.” He added, “it is high time that the presiding officers of both Houses may deliberate and ensure that such gross affronts on Parliament and MPs do not recur.”

According to today’s agenda, the Upper House is set to discuss The Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2022, passed by the Lok Sabha. In the Lower House, Union Minister R K Singh is set to introduce The Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022. The Lok Sabha will also discuss The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022, and The New Delhi International Arbitration Centre (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
