Parliament session Live: LS takes up discussion on price rise, Oppn leaders hit out at govt over fuel and food inflation

Parliament monsoon session Live Updates: As the Lok Sabha took up the discussion on price rise, a number of opposition leaders like Congress’ Manish Tewari, TMC’s Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, DMK’s Kanimozhi hit out at the government over fuel and food inflation and GST implementation.

Earlier as the proceedings resumed in Parliament after both Houses were adjourned till 2 pm, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla revoked the suspension of Congress MPs on Monday. The proposal was moved by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Before withdrawing the suspension, Birla took assurance from the Opposition members that they won’t bring placards into the House. The House then took up the discussion over price rise.

The Rajya Sabha, meanwhile, passed The Weapons of Mass Destruction and their Delivery Systems (Prohibition of Unlawful Activities) Amendment Bill, 2022, which was earlier approved by the Lok Sabha in April. This came in the backdrop of sloganeering by Opposition members over price rise, “misuse” of ED, the Agnipath scheme and other issues.

Earlier, Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Piyush Goyal hit out at the Opposition for not allowing the House to function normally. Speaking to reporters, Joshi said, “We have many Bills to pass but unfortunately, the house is getting adjourned. If the Leader of Congress Parliamentary Party gives assurance in the House that MPs will not come with placards, then we are ready to withdraw the suspension.” Meanwhile, Goyal stated that the ruling party was ready for discussion but the Opposition won’t let the House run. “They’re running from discussing the issue,” he said.
