Sensex and the Nifty ended lower for the third consecutive session on May 18 over uncertainty over the debt-ceiling negotiations in the US continued weighing on market sentiment.
Sensex opened 377 points higher at 61,937.86 and rose 395 points in intraday trade but fell prey to profit booking in the final hour of the session. The index fell 129 points, or 0.21 per cent, to end at 61,431.74 while the Nifty closed the day with a loss of 52 points, or 0.28 per cent, at 18,129.95.

Bajaj Finance (up 1.27%), Bharti Airtel (up 0.98%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 0.93%), ICICI Bank (up 0.76%), and HCL Tech (up 0.58%)
Nifty losers
Divi’s Laboratories (down 3.24%), Adani Ports & SEZ (down 2.93%), ITC (down 2.05%), SBI (down 1.70%), and Power Grid (down 1.59%).
Sensex gainers
Bajaj Finance (up 1.22%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 1.03%), Bharti Airtel (up 0.94%), ICICI Bank (up 0.71%), Asian Paints (up 0.51%) and HCL Tech (up 0.48%)
Sensex Losers
SBI (down 2.11%), ITC (down 1.87%), Titan (down 1.51%), M&M (down 1.42%) and Power Grid (down 1.40%)
